Urban Impediments
Doors and windows are portals to other places. One can walk through a door to somewhere new and unknown. One can look outwards through a window, towards something out beyond our immediate sight, or look inside to the inner lives of others. Both doors and windows can represent openings and opportunities.
This series focuses on windows and doors within the urban landscape, but not as openings which invite us to pass or look through; instead, doors are closed and locked, windows are obscured, frosted, darkened. Closed doors and obscured windows are ubiquitous in the urban landscape, impeding our ability to enter or see into these spaces. These openings often go overlooked, instead existing as a constant but unnoticed part of the background of urban life. This series of photos examines these enigmatic spaces and attempts to find the beauty in the mundane and everyday.
