Berlin Unterwegs is a street photography zine, exploring the relationship between public space, solitude and urban commuting. Berlin is a city of 3.5 million people, many of whom use public transport to get around. Hundreds of thousands of poeple use the trams, trains and buses every day. Although a communal act, performed in tandem with countless strangers, commuting is a often a solitary, lonely experience. Enclosed in cramped, busy carriages, commuters withdraw into their own solitary worlds, sharing public space physically but not mentally. This process repeats itself day after day, month after month, year after year. The intersection of public and private exposes itself in one of the most repetitive and every-day features of the urban experience - commuting.
